Title: Our City and Our Beautiful Men: The Metrosexual Trend.

-The postmodern expectations and the role reversal of male and female and how this was interpreted through visual language of performance.

I have a really strong attachment to beauty which is often express through my fashion choice and the presentation of my appearance. The significance of beauty in my life extend to my work life and inspirations, even through my attraction to beautiful men. Why do I have a deep attachment to beauty? Is this because I am an art student? Or because I am a female? Yes, both are true. Im a girl, and I enjoy decorating myself, also I have been studying art for a long time. ~more develop

My fundamental question here is how this is expressed within the world of visual language of performance. In my opinion, the performance is always expected to entertain audiences and the social status of performers have risen significantly. This means that the beauty of the performers play a great role in success of performances. ~more devlop

This is why I chose to research the concept of metrosexuality: (The postmodern expectations and the role reversal of male and female and how this was interpreted through visual language of performance), through which I hope to stimulate the ideologies of the spectators.

Research background and summary

The term metrosexual comes from a national newspaper in the UK-The Independent, published on 15 November 1994. Here, we have a really interesting article titled ''Here come the mirror men'' by Mark Simpson. He defined a metrosexual man as the single young man with a high disposable income, living or working in the city, is perhaps the most promising consume market of the decade. In the Eighties he was only to be found inside fashion magazines such as GQ, in television advertisements for Levis jeans or in gay bars, In the Nineties, he is everywhere and he's going shopping (Mark Simpson, 1994) It is really a zest fact, because many young men became stylish and their character developed like womens.

The idea behind my project is based on this notion. This phenomenon became diffused in our society, because of the evolved division between male and female. How about in the past? Did this notion exist then? I think, metrosexuality already existed since 1970s though the Glam Rock. Oxford dictionary defined glom rock as a style of rock music characterized by male performers wearing exaggeratedly flamboyant clothes and make-up (Oxford Dictionary). ~more develop
